A graduate of the Cornell School of Hotel and Restaurant Administration, Ivan and his wife, April, decided to leave the corporate world of hotels and purchase their own B&B in southern Arizona 12 years ago. Their property, Tubac Country Inn, is a boutique bed and breakfast tucked into a small desert town in Tubac, Arizona.
The couple visited 18 B&Bs across the United States and came across the Tubac Country Inn, which Ivan described as a perfect fit. As Ivan tells it, “this special walking discovery town is where the desert, history and art collide.” The Tubac Country Inn reflects the unique aesthetics of the Arizona desert and blends in with the local culture.
Ivan used WebRezPro for a number of years before switching to Little Hotelier because he wanted a better booking engine for Tubac’s website. While Little Hotelier’s booking engine helped increase direct bookings, he found the reporting was “failing him miserably.” He went back to the drawing board and found that Cloudbeds offers the best of both worlds. A user-friendly booking engine coupled with comprehensive reporting – which to this date has tremendously increased their property’s direct bookings.
When switching from one PMS to another, Ivan was apprehensive about the setup time. But, he was pleasantly surprised to find that Cloudbeds’ setup was easy, and he was able to import 11 years of reservation history. Talk about data! He found room setup and rates to be intuitive and straightforward as well.
Since purchasing the business in 2005, Ivan and April have experienced both a booming economy and the recession. This year Ivan reports that they have seen the strongest performance yet as the economy continues to climb from the recession. Tubac benefits from both Cloudbeds’ direct booking engine and channel manager which helps distribute their inventory across the world.
“We love its flexibility to either drill down into the day, week, or see the overall year progress. Plus, the additional function of being able to identify by channel, leaves us with no questions as to what our business is. Then throw in the comparison function to previous periods and it is easy to establish our pace. A lot going on rolled into the one report!”
Tubac Country Inn uses Cloudbeds’ property management system and channel manager to advertise on sites like Expedia and Booking.com. As Ivan puts it, “the channel manager is superb” and is impressed by its reliability. Ivan has also taken advantage of new integrations that are included at no extra cost. For example, he started using TrustYou to manage Tubac’s online reputation and has subsequently increased social media comments by more than 50%.
