I just spent a few days at HITEC in San Antonio, arguably the biggest room our industry gathers in all year.<\/p>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p style=\"margin: 0; margin-bottom: 16px;\">You didn&#8217;t have to be there to know the theme. Every booth had an AI story. Conversational assistants. Automated pricing. Intelligent messaging. Predictive everything. Most people felt the energy. Row after row of the future, humming. And it <em>was<\/em> impressive.<\/p>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p style=\"margin: 0; margin-bottom: 16px;\">But I saw something else.<strong> I saw a map of disconnections. <\/strong>Walk the whole floor, and what you\u2019re actually walking is a diagram of everywhere the data breaks. Every vendor was another place for a guest record to splinter into three.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p style=\"margin: 0; margin-bottom: 16px;\">Data architecture isn&#8217;t something a hotelier can see in a demo. It&#8217;s dependent on whether a platform was built as one system or stitched together from many. The tell: when a reservation changes, does the whole platform know instantly? Or does that change get copied system to system, going stale at every hop? There\u2019s no way to see it other than to ask.<\/p>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p style=\"margin: 0; margin-bottom: 16px;\">A 60-resort operator with some of the most tangled requirements in the business \u2014 vacation ownership, hotel operations, OTA distribution, corporate reporting \u2014 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cloudbeds.com\/press\/vacatia-hitec\/\" target=\"_self\" style=\"text-decoration: underline; color: #4da4ff;\">built it<\/a> all on one foundation. That&#8217;s the architecture doing its job.<\/p>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p style=\"margin: 0; margin-bottom: 16px;\">So before you sign a multi-year platform contract on the strength of a slick demo, ask the boring questions. About what&#8217;s actually running underneath the interface. The AI that runs a hotel at 2am needs a connected foundation, and most of what I saw at HITEC (and everywhere else) doesn&#8217;t have one.<br><br>Get the foundation right, and you compound.<\/p>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p style=\"margin: 0;
