Roadside Hospitality is a group of casual motels scattered across South Okanagan, one of British Columbia’s most sought-after vacation destinations. With five properties across three cities, Roadside Hospitality offers the perfect spot for family vacations, with kitchen suites and access to outdoor pools and private beaches.

Roadside Hospitality first purchased the Bowmont Motel a year ago and has been quickly expanding ever since. Sahad Kassam, Head of Asset Management, says they have been careful to keep the family model behind these properties and says that “our customers are loyal and return to stay every year.”

The challenge

Five acquisitions in one year

The past year has been busy for Roadside Hospitality with its five acquisitions. Sahad says, “typically, the previous owners retire, and we take over their business.” This includes all of their furniture, amenities, and technology infrastructure. Two of the acquired properties were already using Cloudbeds PMS, while the other three had very old systems that needed to be replaced.

Sahad says, “Cloudbeds has been a great fit for these properties” and that he had heard many good things about the system through the Canadian hotel ownership community.

After implementing Cloudbeds across properties, Sahad notes that “the user interface has been easy to use – it’s intuitive and easy to train new staff on where to find information and make bookings.”

Roadside Hospitality has seen its average daily rate (ADR) increase substantially since partnering with Cloudbeds, which can largely be attributed to optimizing room types across the booking engine and channel manager. From 2021 to 2022, they were able to increase ADR by 24% in the summer months at Bowmont Motel.

Roadside Hospitality utilizes a wide variety of Cloudbeds tools, including Cloudbeds Payments, Booking Engine, Channel Manager, and Pricing Intelligence Engine. They also take advantage of Cloudbeds’ Marketplace integrations.

Roadside Hospitality also recently started using Cloudbeds Amplify, a best-in-class digital marketing service. 

Results

Convenient reporting helps simplify decision making

The best part of Cloudbeds? Sahad says the report builder “helps us grow our business by being able to see and act on data wherever and whenever I want.” He reviews the ADR report every morning and credits the data insights portal as “my favorite invention from Cloudbeds.” 

After running Cloudbeds Amplify for eight months, Roadside Hospitality saw a 6.6X ROI on average across all four properties. Sahad says, “Cloudbeds Amplify is becoming extremely valuable for our properties. We’ve been able to shift our distribution mix towards more direct bookings.”

With Roadside Hospitality’s second summer fully behind them, Sahad says, “all of our guests have been extremely happy with lots of guest experience add-ons which have been an exciting new addition for them.” They are already seeing bookings coming in through their booking engine for next summer and look forward to welcoming their loyal guests back.
