E-invoicing

Spain’s e-invoicing mandate is set to take effect in 2024 for very large businesses and in 2025 for smaller businesses. This regulation affects every company in Spain, regardless of where they are located. Mandatory only for B2B transactions. The implementation process has two steps:

1. Mandatory from 2024 for companies with a turnover higher than 8 million a year.

2. Mandatory from 2025 for companies with a turnover lower than 8 million a year.

Fiscalization receipts

In Catalonia, businesses are subject to the Veri*factu system for fiscalization:

  • Veri*factu: This system requires businesses to use certified invoicing software that generates a specific XML file for each transaction.
  • Digital Signature: Each XML file must be electronically signed using a digital certificate.
  • Real-time Reporting: The signed XML files are automatically sent to the Spanish Tax Agency (AEAT) in real-time.

This system aims to ensure the authenticity and integrity of invoices and to combat tax fraud.


Statistical reporting

Reports need to be shared monthly with the National Institute of Statistics (ARCE and ISTAC).


Guest reporting

A nightly police report is required by various police departments in Spain for all guests staying at hospitality businesses in Spain. In Catalunya, this report needs to be submitted to the Mossos d’Esquadra, police portal.
